Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
QR & Barcode Smart Scan is developed by Lumisphere, a trade name of Kashmira Kikani (individual developer, sole proprietor). References to "we," "us," or "our" in this policy refer to Lumisphere.
2. Information we do NOT collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information about you. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Your name, email, or phone number
- Your device advertising identifier (IDFA) or any other tracking identifier
- Your location or GPS coordinates
- Your contacts, photos (other than the specific image you pick to scan), or address book
- Analytics, crash reports with personal data, or usage telemetry
- The contents of your scan history
We do not use any third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.
3. Information stored on your device
The following data is stored only on your iPhone, in your app's private sandbox. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it (for example, exporting to CSV or sharing a scan via the iOS share sheet).
- Scan history: decoded scan values, scan type, timestamp, safety-check result, and any notes you add.
- App preferences: your settings (sound, haptics, auto-copy, safety check on/off, onboarding answers).
- Generated QR codes: saved to your Photos library only if you tap Save and grant permission.
You can delete individual scans or clear all history from the History tab at any time.
4. Camera and photo library access
The app requests camera access so it can scan QR codes and barcodes in real time. Camera frames are processed on-device using Apple's Vision framework and are not recorded, stored, or transmitted anywhere.
If you use the "scan from photo" feature, the app reads the specific image you select and looks for a code inside it. The image is not uploaded.
If you save a generated QR code, the app requests permission to add the image to your Photos library. This is a one-way write; the app does not read your other photos.
5. Third-party services
Two features send limited, non-personal data to third-party services so we can deliver the feature you asked for. No account, identifier, or personal data is attached to these requests.
5.1 URL safety check — Google Web Risk
When you scan a QR code that contains a URL and the "Safety check" setting is on, the URL is sent to Google's Web Risk API to check it against Google's list of known malware and phishing sites. Only the URL is sent. No user identifier, device identifier, IP-linked account, or other personal data is included. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
5.2 Food product lookup — Open Food Facts
When you scan a food product barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts, a public open-data database, to fetch product name, nutrition information, and Nutri-Score. Only the barcode number is sent. Open Food Facts is a nonprofit; their terms are at openfoodfacts.org/terms-of-use.
5.3 Apple services
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. Apple, not Lumisphere, receives your payment information. Their handling is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
6. Children's privacy
The app is a general-audience utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since we do not collect personal information from anyone, there is nothing about a child that we could store.
7. International users
Because the app does not send personal data off your device, there are no international transfers of your personal information. The two third-party services (Google Web Risk, Open Food Facts) receive only the URL or barcode you scanned, with no user identifier attached.
8. Your rights
Because we do not collect or store your personal data, we do not have anything to give you, correct, or delete on our servers. All of your data lives on your iPhone and is under your control — you can clear it any time in the History tab or by deleting the app.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Effective date" above and update the version distributed on the App Store. Please review this page from time to time.
